Searching OBGYN Reno, How To Find The Right One

By Sherry Gross

The search for an OBGYN doesn't have to be difficult. With a growing population, Reno also offers a growing population of physicians. When searching for an OBGYN Reno the obvious first step is exploring just which physicians your insurance company has listed. If you have a plan that allows you to choose any physician your search criteria broadens. This is a decision that should require some research If you have the time and it is not an emergency situation put the work into finding the right fit for your given needs.

Word of mouth is a powerful resource. Often when you ask your friends or family for such a referral you are bound to get a list of viable choices. If you have the luxury of getting such referrals, and are comfortable doing so, ask the important questions based on your needs. For instance if you are pregnant and looking at obstetrics being your main need, ask the questions that are related to that area of need. If you have had children, aren't planning on any more, are in the years where menopause is in your near future you want to know that the physician you select is up to date on treatment for such needs.

If you are unfamiliar with the area and don't have the good fortune to know people in the area already then your search may be a little more difficult based on the fact that you will be doing your own research. Don't lose hope of finding a good OBGYN, however. In the age of the internet you can do some research on credentials etc. That way. Take care in knowing that the sources you are reading though are reputable. As with anything, due diligence is very important. Contacting the BBB in this instance can still be very helpful. Finding a physician is a big decision and once that should take some time. Of course there may be times when that luxury is not there because of medical emergencies.

When interviewing a potential OBGYN make a list of priorities you have as a patient. Those priorities can be anything including patient numbers, after hours availability, support staff (physicians assistants, etc.), and office hours. Medical needs may make your priority list even more extensive. This list should help you formulate your interview questions.

Many people think that they have to make an appointment for a check up in order to talk to a physician. This is a time when you should be able to and should make a priority of making an appointment to just speak to a physician regarding any specific needs you may have at the time. Knowing that your OBGYN has the ability and knowledge to treat and discuss openly options pertaining to specific medical needs is reassuring at the very least. If there are no specific medical needs that you want addressed then making an appointment for a general check up may be all you need to do to feel comfortable.

Specific medical needs will require tough questions be asked from your physician. Knowing your physician is not afraid to discuss new treatment options as well as alternative medicine can be very important. If you are dealing with a physician whom does not want to explore new options or even discuss them with you, you may want to reconsider that choice. Feeling comfortable and safe with your physician can really keep other medical issues at bay.

Always be willing to advocate for yourself in any medical situation. You can choose to be your own best advocate or own worst enemy where it concerns medical issues. If you are someone who reads up on current medical treatments or even alternative medicine, they are all things that you should be comfortable discussing with your OBGYN.

In the last twenty years Reno has grown in what it offers from the medical community. Not only has it grown in the number of physicians available, it has grown in its ability to offer cutting edge medical resources.
