Essential Diet and Fitness Tip - Set Your Short and Long Term Goals For Weight Loss

At the start of every new year, one of the "goals for the year" that most people want to achieve is weight loss. Some people would start the year truly determined to engage in a weight loss program, taking care to count calories and go to the gym regularly. However, it is quite common for this determination to wane towards the middle of the year, and for most people on a rigid weight loss program to give up mid way and go back to their old ways.

Why is it so difficult to stick to a fitness program? Perhaps the program is not the right one in the first place. It is possible also for some people to set their goals too high,
that if they do not see fast results, they tend to get frustrated and give up. Others are in fad fast diet programs that will simply not work, because the changes in their food and lifestyle need to be very drastic, that it no longer becomes a realistic endeavor.

Identify Your Short Term Weight Loss Goals

First of all, remember that if you don't have a goal in mind, you will have a hard time focusing and achieving anything. Attempting a new fitness program that has no goals, like how many pounds you want to lose every week, or how many calories you want to consume daily, will be quite futile. It doesn't matter if your plans to lose weight just includes dieting or regular exercise at the gym or using your home exercise equipment. You need to set out your daily or weekly goals so that you can measure whether your weight loss program is working or not.

Keep in mind that you need goals that are realistic, and not too ambitious to start with, otherwise you will just get disappointed if you do not see fast results right away.

Keep Focused On Your Long Term Weight Loss Goals

Aside from setting your daily or weekly goals, you also need to decide on your long term goals. Keeping yourself focused on how you want to see yourself in a year's or three year's time can help you stay on your weight loss programs, even during days when your motivation is quite low.
One of your long term goals should be to keep a healthy lifestyle, in order to live healthier and longer. Keep this in mind and when you see your energy faltering, visualize yourself achieving your long term goals and this will surely help you go back in track.
